Mein office kyun aata hoon

8 days passed and i am still to start my work in this new project. I feel like Gautam Gambhir who can bat better than sehwag in current form but seating in the pavilion for the whole south africa tour. Counting number of runs he could have made being in middle for every loose delivery missed by sehwag. Every morning i come with the hope that today might be that sunny day wherein i will start working but somethings dont change (remembering the ad, ...for everything else there is master card). In my case, it would be to pass your time, browse internet. I should be enjoying this condition as well in the true sense, coz morning to evening just browse internet, think of weirdest imaginations and being paid to do the same. But damn, most of the sites are blocked. I think the IT admin folks were asked to make my life miserable by blocking most of the sites. This make me remember of film sholay, where Gabar Singh says, 'Koi bhi site soch ke kholna warna URL blocked ka page aa jayeega'. It is like the plight of a diabetics patient where he has the mouth watering choclate cake with him but cant eat it. On the positive note, this gave me a chance to read some of the fine blogs and explore the world of blogging. I am writing blogs as well, (you are reading the one buddy) the much fascinated domain by me since last few months when i started reading the blogs of Rajdeep Sardesai on IBN.
Then suddenly, i am called for a status meeting in which everyone else arrives 15-20 minutes late rushing. Everyone is busy like a politician not having time to know about the people in constituency after the polls. Everyone cries a well full of tears about how much work load they have and they dont have any status as Y had to go to check health of pet-dog of her step sister's daughter's classmate. Hence, the meeting with her got cancelled . This make me feel more guilty and develops a feeling for me to drown into that hole (circle) which i just drew on my notepad while waiting in the meeting room. Suddenly, I am questioned
Manager: What status?
Me (expression like caught stealing eggs): Completed reading 92nd blog of the day, confirming that there is always exactly 43 seconds interval between two consecutive thoughts of 'Will i get work? who cares, continue blogging' and there were 784 pieces of popcorn (5 more than what i ate in the morning) in the last bag from which i was munching. (Hope i could have said that). {complete silence}
Manager: What are you doing?
Me : Trying to understand the system by reading the document that Mr. X has sent. Should i say that it is more confusing then understanding Einstien's theory of relativity for which i am reading a 6 page document since last 8 days. Phew, i hope it would have been. In that case, I wouldnt have been wondering to write a book about '9999 ways to kill time in office'
Manager: Good. We will get you started on something very soon.
Me (grinning): Sure (Does 'very soon = Reading 4572 blogs'?)
Well, thatz the story between morning to noon and noon to full moon for me.
Hope i get some work tommorrow. Else i would be investigating on 'On average, how many times did my neighbour presses {Enter} key in one hour' and may write a blog on my findings. Sounds adventurous, isnt it? After all it is 1 way from my soon-to-be-published-book.

Day 1 at Allstate

9 am in the morning and i am ready to get into the car with my room-mate. I just sat quietly gazing around as the car raced towards the office. There was a mix of excitement and nervouseness about the things to follow. I hardly knew the manager and the team was also more or less a complete set of strangers to me. With no background of the project going on and my role into the same, things were pretty dizzy for me. That itself posed as a challenge infront of me to get into thick and thin of things with the knowledge and experience i have gained in my last project. The day started with an introduction to the reporting manager (special thanks to my roomie). She tried introducing me to others but in vain as it was 9:30 and no one had turned up. It seems people were still riding the wave of holiday weekend. She was looking for a machine for me to start upon. We entered a training room stuffed with 10 computers with couple of them being occupied. She enquired for a free computer and alloted the same to me. Asking a neighbour to login for me as my id was still to be created. I guess this was the most horrible think to start your new assignment. No machine alloted for you, login id still to be created. It seemed either things were completely mis-managed or i entered early into the assignment then planned. Anyways, I couldnt have made a difference by cribbing.
Finally, people started roping in and around 10:30 room was almost packed with 8 out of 10 machines occupied. I was a bit happy with the feeling that there are quite a few new joinee's but after having a word with couple of people, i found that people are seating in this room from a few months now. This feeling sank that i too may have to hang around in such a situation for months now. Finally, she (manager) arrived again to introduce me to other team members. Looking at my face, she soothed me saying that its just a temporary arrangement for me and i may get a cubicle in couple of weeks. Those words brought a broad smile on my face. I met all my team members. They were scattered all around the floor giving me an idea about the messy state of overall setup of things. She asked one of the team member to give me a KT session but he was to busy to take up her request. He excused saying, he would send me some documents and that should be enough for me as of now. I strolled back to my place to find that my machine got locked and the person who logged in is nowhere to see. Without waiting, i rebooted my machine and asked another inhabitant to log in. In the meantime, i got chance to meet one of my old colleague from mangalore. He proved helpful to me by giving his password so that i can login each time by myself without waiting for others. A mail popped in my inbox and the link for documents was there. I scrolled through a few documents parallely surfing net.
By 5, i have wrapped up almost half of them and still no one to guide me for my future course. I tried calling up my room-mate, assuming it to be end of day just to know that he is not planning to leave before 7:30. There I am stranded in the room for another couple of hours. With nothing going right on day 1, i thought of atleast writing a blog.
I sign off today in the hope that next few days have something better in store for me.....
